Ash relates how cultural identification and genealogy can create a common ancestry in the Book of Mormon peoples even though there may be no genetic link between Native Americans and Lamanites, LDS scriptures and prophets are justified in referring to them as “Lamanites” due to the likelihood of these cultural and genealogical affiliations.
